This week has been the worst for me. Life was throwing one curve ball after another and basically everything was going wrong in my life. Amidst the chaos I tried to do a few things to make myself feel better and I did have a few good moments. I am sure everybody has these kind of days where they feel like the whole universe is working against them, so I thought of sharing the things I do that make me feel better during my bad days. Let me tell you that these things won’t make you feel like you’re on the top of the world, you will see only small changes in your mood. Bad days are a part of our life and there is no way to skip them altogether unless you have a time machine, then you can skip the bad parts. These days teach us the most about ourselves and these are the moments that shape us. It depends on you, if you want to throw a continuous pity party for yourself or you try to have a positive outlook towards life.
1 : Stop throwing yourself a pity party
Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something about what is bringing you down! Lying in bed for hours in the morning crying and complaining about things/people isn’t going to help you in any way. SO STOP IT. Try to shift your focus on something positive, like the book you just bought or the project you just completed. Think of the difficult days that you have survived in the past and tell yourself that everything will be okay.
2 : Get productive
Don’t sit in your pjs all day, get cleaned up and be productive. Sitting with messy hair in your bed would make you think stupid things and eventually you will make the problem bigger than it actually is. Working will help you to stay focused and present. Accomplishing things will make you feel better and therefore boost your mood.
3 : Journal
Take a piece of paper and write down everything that is on your mind. Journal-ling can give you thinking space and perspective, you will be able to see your problem from a bird’s eye view and hence solution finding would be easier. Also venting out feelings and emotions can be really helpful and can help you to clear your mind of negative thoughts.
4 : Go outside
Getting some fresh air can really lift your mood up. Whenever I feel down, I go for a run and it instantly makes me feel better. So, take a break and go outside, spend some time in the nature, pay attention to the details but don’t pay too much attention to anything. Breathe in the fresh air and watch your mood get better. Make sure not to film every moment you spend outside for your instagram, have some me-time.
5 : Eat gut healthy foods
Don’t binge on ice cream and chips, we all know it doesn’t make us feel any better. The sugar would hike up your blood sugar levels and it will make you feel restless. The sodium increases your blood pressure and it makes you anxious. Instead go grocery shopping and cook yourself a healthy meal (Hot Body Meal Plan https://my.lovesweatfitness.com has many such healthy recipes). Cooking will require your full attention and it would help you to stay present and take your mind off the things that are bothering you.
6 : Get a massage
Let’s not debate on this, we all know how good a massage feels, so go for a massage when you are having bad days, you are sure to feel better. As soon as your skin cells feel pressure they send a signal to your brain to release endorphins, also known as feel-good hormones. Massage will boost your mood and give you a natural high. Well, you could use that on a bad day!
7 : Read
Read something light and uplifting on your bad days. Sometimes we need an escape from the reality into fiction and it does make us feel better. Read self-help books to get the dose of motivation and positive energy you need. Two of my absolute favorite self-help books are ‘You can win’ by Shiv Khera ( https://amzn.to/2WqxYmK ) and ‘The 5 AM club’ by Robin Sharma ( https://amzn.to/2wpe5xO ). You can spend some time in your local library or your local bookstore browsing through books.
I read in a ‘Law of Attraction’ article that the way you tackle your bad days decide how long your bad days are going to stretch out. Your bad morning doesn’t have to be a bad day, and your bad Monday doesn’t have to be a bad week. You need to have a positive outlook during these days, you need to say positive things to yourself and you need to not do things that make you pity yourself. During a bad day remember how far you have come and how with faith in yourself you can go farther in the days to come. Crests and troughs are part of your life’s graph and you need to embrace it, not forsake it. Take it slow and treat yourself with love, the bad days will pass soon enough.
